As Christians there may be times when we feel as if we simply do not fit in.  Much of how God calls us to live and move in the world seems to be at odds with the world as we know it.

We are not alone in this realization.  Living as a follower of Jesus in the first-century was not easy.  Christians were suffering all over the world and they wanted to know why.  They wanted to know how to deal with it.  They needed to know how to live, and to know that their struggle was not in vain.

The apostle Peter writes these Christians a letter to speak to their concerns.  He calls them to testify to the truth.  The more they know about Jesus, themselves, and the world the better they will understand their situation.  Peter then challenges them to live according to the truths he teaches.

Peter’s words from long ago still speak today.  The more we know the better able we are to live in the midst of turmoil and chaos.  This epistle was written to give Christians a fuller understanding of what’s going on: the present sufferings and the glories to come.

Over the next nine weeks our teaching team will be helping us explore the teaching of 1 Peter.
